IGC 2027: Ouro Preto, Brazil
The 39th International Gemmological Conference will take place in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil, from Monday 23rd August to Friday 27th August 2027.
Dear IGC Colleague,
The Organising Committee of IGC Brazil 2027, along with the Executive Committee of the International Gemmological Conference, is pleased to announce that the next IGC will be held in Ouro Preto. The city is located in Minas Gerais, a state internationally known for its mineral and gemstone heritage. The city combines colonial architecture, museums, churches and mining history.
The venue will be Vila Galé Collection Ouro Preto, located in Cachoeira do Campo, about 20 km from the historic centre of Ouro Preto.
In addition to accommodation at the conference venue, participants will be provided with a list of more affordable accommodation options in Cachoeira do Campo and the surrounding area, including hotels, guesthouses and, where available, Airbnb properties.
The provisional programme of the conference is as follows:
Lunch, as well as morning and afternoon coffee/tea breaks, will be provided each day of the conference. The programme includes one official Gala Dinner. A group dinner at a local restaurant is also proposed for Tuesday evening, with the cost included in the registration fee.
On Wednesday, 25th August 2027, field excursion is planned to include a visit to an Imperial Topaz mining site in the Ouro Preto region, followed by lunch in the historic centre and a visit to the Museum of Science and Technology of the School of Mines, Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), which hosts one of the most important mineralogical collections in Latin America.

Pre-conference tour
18-21 August 2027
A pre-conference excursion is being considered from 18th to 21st August 2027, with a possible visit to the Belmont Emerald Mine, near Itabira, and to gemstone-related sites in the Nova Era region.
Post-conference tour
28 sept.-1 Oct. 2027
A post-conference excursion is also being considered after the conference. The provisional programme, from 28th to 1st September 2027, may include the Passagem Gold Mine, near Ouro Preto, followed by a visit to Governador Valadares, an important centre for gemstone extraction, cutting and trade. From there, a visit to the Cruzeiro Mine, in São José da Safira, is planned.
